On February 18, 1952, Lucia Newman was born in London. And Today, She is one of the successful and wealthiest journalists ever existed on this world. And here is the thing: She holds a powerful position among the list of most famous journalists.

Lucia has over 25 years of experience and expertise in the television and journalism industry.

During these 25 years, Lucia was honoured with a lot of awards, including the Maria Moors Cabot Prize. And In 2001, she Honoured with the prestigious Edward R Morrow Award, for her “sustained coverage of Elian Gonzalez.”

In 27 years, She stands as a first United States journalist who has a permanent residence in Cuba.

At first, She started her career as a long-standing broadcaster for CNN. She worked at CNN for 20 years. Then, in 2006, she left CNN and joined Al Jazeera English.

2. The Early Life of Lucia Newman…

On 18 February 1952, Newman was born in London.

Before she was born with two sisters in London, her father and mother lived in Berlin for three years, and then they moved to live in London for three years.

Newman’s mother — Lucia Meza — was one of the junior cultural attachés. And her father — Joseph Newman — was one of the New York Herald Tribune bureau chiefs.

When the Tribune deflated after a long strike, ending the longest-running newspaper in US history, The family shifted to Bronxville, NY.

Then in Bronxville, NY, Lucia went to an elementary school at PS #8.

In her events class, she watches her father weekly, interviewing some famous national and foreign leaders.

After she completed her 7th grade, her family shifted to Washington, DC. In Washington, Newman’s father began the Book-Division of US News and World Report.

After completing high school, Lucia proceeded to Santiago, Chile, to register at the Chile University.

In April 1979, from the University of New South Wales, she got a beautiful bachelor’s degree in communication.

Then Newman moved to Australia. In Australia, she got a job as a Spanish to English translator at the Chilean Embassy in Australia.

3. Lucia Newman’s Career…

In 1991, she earned the Maria Moors Cabot Prize from Columbia University.

She got this prize for this reason: “the advancement of press freedom and inter-American understanding.”

Then, In March 1997, she stands out as the first United-State journalist in the last 27 years who has a permanent residency in Cuba.

However, after the first news broadcast of her, Ninoska Pérez criticized Newman just for not interviewing peoples who were against the Cuban government. Pérez criticized her because he wanted Newman to show the world that Cuba is just a normal nation — Not a rogue nation!

The North-South Institute glorified Newman for her phenomenal reporting. Infact, they wrote a note, which says — “because she knows severel languages, she can find out things that most people cannot find.”
